On March 24, the government extended the ban on international flights until April 30th, 2021. However, the order clarified that cargo flights and flights under a bubble arrangement (temporary arrangements between two countries, reciprocal in nature, aimed at restarting commercial passenger services when regular international flights are suspended) will continue to operate. The order came after the home ministry announced new guidelines on managing rising COVID cases. While the government was discussing the possibility of starting regular international flights by the summer of 2021, there were indications that may not happen in view of the surge of COVID infections across India as well as the rest of the world.
