Easily overlooked among the COVID-19 news, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has officially announced it will no longer collect pay data from employers on the EEO-1.
Background: In March 2019, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia ordered the EEOC to collect two years of pay data from employers. That collection was finalized in January 2020.
The EEOC’s notice said it would no longer collect pay data because the burden imposed on employers to comply with the reporting obligation far outweighs the unproven utility of the data to the commission’s enforcement program.
However, it is still not clear when the EEOC will begin collecting the 2019 EEO-1 diversity data, as it still does not have OMB clearance to do so.
