CSR to Cover Vaccine Spend on Staff

April 08, 2021

Companies will soon be allowed to (1) procure COVID vaccines for community inoculation drives that include their employees and family members and (2) claim such expenditure as corporate social responsibility spending. A government official told the Economic Times that the government will issue norms in the form of FAQs on how such expenditure can be counted as part of a company's CSR obligations as long as it is part of a community-based project. According to these proposed norms, if companies cover the cost of vaccinating people in local communities around their offices or factories (including in employee residences) in a non-discriminatory manner, after disclosing such information to the ministry it can be counted as CSR activity.
