Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard’s (D-CA) American Dream and Promise Act, which would provide paths to citizenship for DACA recipients and beneficiaries of temporary protected status, establishes the position of House Democrats in any future negotiations on immigration.
Shortly after introduction, the bill gathered a near-majority in the House as cosponsors. However, it remains to be seen whether the issue can gain traction in Congress, with the Senate controlled by Republicans. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will have another chance to take up the issue later this year despite having passed on it in January.
